About HomeAfford

Clear, honest home-buying math for U.S. buyers — without the signup wall.

Our mission

HomeAfford exists to help U.S. buyers understand what a home really costs before they talk to a lender, a realtor, or a marketplace. Most "affordability" tools online are lead-capture forms wearing a calculator costume — they collect your contact info and route you to a sales pipeline. We do the opposite: give you the full math first, in private.

What makes us different

  • We're independent. We are not a lender, broker, or loan marketplace. We don't sell your data, don't sell leads, and don't pull credit.
  • Calculations run in your browser. Numbers you type into a calculator stay on your device — they are not sent to our servers.
  • We show the full picture. Property tax, insurance, PMI, HOA, closing costs, transfer taxes, prepaids — the line items most calculators quietly drop are the ones that decide whether a payment is actually affordable.
  • No account required. Every tool works without a signup. Email is optional and only used if you ask for our rate brief.

Our editorial standard

Our defaults are grounded in public data: IRS tax brackets, Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey for rate benchmarks, FHFA conforming loan limits, and state-published transfer-tax and property-tax tables. We document every formula and source on our Methodology & Sources page and review the figures regularly.

HomeAfford is funded by display advertising and may, over time, add clearly labeled affiliate links. Monetization never changes the math, the defaults, or which result we show. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

HomeAfford provides educational estimates, not financial, tax, or legal advice. Always confirm any number with your lender's Loan Estimate before making a decision.
